I was a huge skeptic when I heard that the Japanese had overtaken the Scottish in terms of new whiskeys that are being presented because I enjoy my Glenlivets and Glenfidditch immensely but the reviews are not kidding. Probably one of the best 'hard' liquors I have ever enjoyed.

Let's just talk about the smell alone. There's this huge floral aroma when you open it. It has a slight citrusy smell but the sweet flowery smell hits you most. It is completely different from a scotch where you get the smell of the wood they used in the barrel and various techniques that change up the smell. It is a really nice change of pace, especially when you consider that the smell of cleaning solution is not everyone's fancy.

The taste? How do I explain this other than it goes down so smoothly you wonder how you downed an entire tumbler's worth your filthy gullet. It has a slight sweetness and the initial kick is nothing until you have it all the way down and feel the warmth. By then you only get a brief flash of the kick before it goes back to being that almost fruity but not quite overly sweet taste. It is hard to localize exactly what fruit or taste it is like but it reminds me more of Vanilla than anything else which is a hard to replicate taste.

Pair this with a nicely grilled steak, especially on flat iron grill with minimal fixings.
You can drink this straight up, on the rocks, or a water drop. To be honest it was great when it was mixed with some Fentimans herbal cola, crazy weird cola that was found in a market, giving it a little carbonation and more herbal sweetness.

The finish is pretty nice that leaves you pretty fulfilled but doesn't discourage you from pouring another glass at all.

Price Point $70
ABV 40%
Where to find? Online or at a local Liquor store that imports.
Manufacturer Suntory, Yamazaki Distillery

Related? Suntory has 2 other distilleries that I have yet to try.
