Hey all,

Getting my feet wet in this home brew stuff. Looking to put some cash down on a brew kettle. Any suggestion?

I'm going stainless steel, looking for something in the 8 - 10 gallon range, hopefully with ports for a thermometer, and valve if not already integrated.

The intention is to brew in 5 gallon batches. It doesn't have to be industrial strength, but I do want something that will last.

Thanks for your expertise.

There are a couple of us who brew as well. I don't but I think Karbomb does. I'll send him this topic

I used to brew, haven't in a while. Last I did was a hemp brew. If you had 2 you were great. 3 made you sick.? So many good microbrews arround now.

If it was practical I'd distil and age my own bourbon

Oh well, I just picked up 1.5L of Watkins, 6 Pack of Angry Orchard, 6 Pack of Boston Lager, and a Hopped Cider from an Oregon Microbrew to try

Scarcer, isn't that Square Mile Brewing? They have a hopped cider.

Hmmmm hemp brewing ... sounds interesting, did you dry hop it or put it in the boil?

I do get out and enjoy the odd scotch on occasion. If you are around the Portland, OR area, go to Edgefield in Troutdale and get some of that Mcmenamins whiskey, very tasty stuff.

I brew, and picked up a 10 gallon stainless pot and a turkey fryer for the burner. Works great although I'm always paranoid that I'll run out of gas in the tank before the brewing is done. On the pot itself, it doesnt have anything special on it for the thermometer. I picked up one that clips onto the side of the pot itself for like $4.

If you do it on the stove then it smells up the whole house. I like the malty smell personally, the wife.. not so much

Thanks for the advise, I have a big camp stove that have two propane burners. Big steel bastard. It would support the weight of a pot, and I agree, I like the malty delicious smells.

How do you drain the pot into a carboy/bucket for fermentation? Just siphon with a tube? Or an auto-siphon? Or does that pot have a valve on the bottom? Opinion on false bottoms?
